Taking the risk and leaving the corporate world to follow your passion and set up your own venture. Why do it?

Whilst exploring the topic of ‘bespoke outplacement’ providers, and whether or not traditional outplacement providers are providing executives and professionals with the right support, I found an interesting and loosely related discussion on LinkedIn.

The loose connection being that an increasing number of executives and professionals are voluntary or involuntary leaving the corporate world to pursue their own ventures, be it a franchise, consultancy, buying an existing business or growing their own. With this, they are more looking for financial and business support. As a result, those who are made redundant and going through outplacement are not always receiving a lot of value from traditional outplacement.

The LinkedIn discussion was about leaving the corporate life to become an entrepreneur. Various people shared inspirational stories around the subject, including the pros and cons that come with taking that big risk to go it alone! It requires passion and a willingness to back yourself. The late Anita Roddick spoke about being an entrepreneur, the essence being that every day is about survival.

So why take the risk to leave the safety net of a good paying corporate job to follow your passionboot? What have you found to be the greatest support in your journey towards self employment?
